Student - Vellum covered background with Distress watercolouring

A little mousie in the library gathering up his books for school is definitely the star student.

This card features House Mouse and Friends, vellum, Impression Obsession background stamp, and watercolouring with Distress markers and Distress crayons.

With this card, I am featured as a guest on the design team for House Mouse and Friends challenge blog. The challenge is I Can See Right Through You!, a challenge for using vellum, aperture, or any other way to look through. Come join us on the challenge!

Putting It Together

I finished this card on the weekend but it was so hot here my brain melted and I only just cropped all the pictures and didn't get further on the blog post.

I stamped the House Mouse image with a dark brown Rich Cocoa.

I stamped the bookshelf background with black.

Several weeks ago I bought a few Impression Obsession background stamps as imperfect seconds. They were about 1/3 normal price, so I figured I could work around the flaws. As you can see, there is one spot on this stamp that doesn't get a good impression.

I coloured both with Distress crayons and markers in the cooler downstairs and not in my overly hot workshop upstairs. I am so looking forward to the cooler temperatures of Autumn (and winter).

There are slight colour differences in the Distress markers and crayons that I noticed for those I have both. Mostly because of the consistency and how the medium can be applied. It just makes me want to fill in my collection of both all that much more. The markers are closest in consistency and colour to the ink pads with the crayons having a creamier aspect. It's hard to describe and is subtle. I used the markers and crayons because they're more portable and compact than my tins of minis.

I fussy cut the mousie with a narrow margin.

I trimmed the bookcase and, poof, the flaw in the stamping was gone.

I trimmed a piece of vellum to fit over the bookcase.

I stamped a sentiment and dry fit them on the card base.

Because I wanted to 'float' the vellum above the book case, I adhered the mousie and sentiment to the vellum with tape runner.

I then flipped the vellum over and added foam mounting tape behind the mousie and sentiment strip.

I added an arrow, also with foam mounting tape behind it, to give another point for the vellum to rest on. The vellum is anchored just in these hidden spots.

Inside, I stamped a pencil in multiple colours and added another sentiment.
